The Dark Forest

Single Player Quest Walkthrough
Quest Background: A curse has befallen the land and everyone is will. A single warrior offers his service to rid the curse.
Objective: Destroy the Witch King
Since you are unable to build anything in the beginning, train four warriors and set explore flags nearby. A ranger will soon join your forces to help you explore. The immediate goal is to discover the nearby temple to Fervus, for which discovery will allow you to build all the bulidings you normally can. Once you've located the temple, you can start building a rangers guild to explore the map. Train Warriors of Discord and build a temple to Kryta, which you will eventually want to upgrade to level three for the reanimation spell.
Of great importance on the map are two trading posts carrying 8000 gold each. Once you've discovered them, make sure your tax collector safely returns the gold, or you'll be set back pretty far! An interesting aspect about this map is that there are very few wandering monsters on the map of any great threat. (The most powerful monsters here are the stationary daemonwood). Therefore, it's very safe to build trading posts across the map without fear of losing them. You should consider building two additional trading posts as far from your marketplace as possible. With four trading posts, gold should be coming in much faster than you can ever use them.
Once you have enough gold to afford healing and reanimate spells, locate the Witch King tower on the far edge of your map and send in your heroes. It will be heavily guarded by Daemonwood, but as long as you keep your hand on your heal spells for your Warriors of Discord and other heroes. As long as you provide the "defensive skill" for your WOD's, they are essentially unstoppable and will perform even better than Paladins due to their high damage. When the tower is destroyed, the Witch king will come out, but will likely telleport away while unleasing all the Daemonwood against you. Liberally cast wither on the advancing daemonwood and the witch king himself to allow your heroes to engage in combat. The witch king has some pretty fearsome spells but should fall without significant problems when a few WoDs or Dwarves close in.
